I was informed that the OEM front axle for my 88 Suburban should be a 10 bolt. I purchased it in November and it was equipped with a Dana 44 or Dana 60 front axle. I don't know how to tell which. While trying to change the brake rotors I noticed that my Chiltons was not of great assistance. At the local auto parts store I picked up a hub socket, I got both the full size blazer socket and the H.D. 3/4 and 1 ton hub socket. both are too big to fit within the hub. The next direction from the Chiltons is: "Using the special socket, remove the bearing adjusting nut". even if the socket fit inside, I don't see how it would hook into anything. I'm stumped. Any help would be great.

you can use a screwdriver to get it out as well. to tell if it is a dana 60 look at the u bolts if it has 3 ubolts and 2 studs its a dana 60 if it has 4 ubolts it is a dana 44 or 10 bolt
