Ogden, UTAH (August 1, 2006)—With the rise of motorized vehicle use among youth, the nonprofit Tread Lightly!® and its squirrel mascot Lightfoot™ have introduced a free “Lightfoot’s Kids Club” to help kids minimize their impact on the outdoors. Club members will receive periodic emails from Lightfoot with fun activities and tips on playing responsibly outdoors. “Kids aren’t just hiking and camping, they’re biking, riding ATVs and driving motorcycles,” said Lori McCullough, Tread Lightly!’s executive director. “This group is the future of recreation, and we want to make sure the next generation learns early how to tread lightly on the environment.” Children can sign up by going to Tread Lightly!’s new kids website at www.treadlightlykids.org and clicking under the drop down menu, “Kids Stuff.” Visitors are asked initially only for their parent’s email address so Tread Lightly! can verify parent’s consent before joining. Information provided by members will not be shared with a third party and members can unsubscribe at any time. Treadlightlykids.org also has an interactive ATV maze, an outdoor quiz, hiking checklist, a story builder and coloring pages with crayons.
